By 1970, Alex Chilton was barely old enough to vote but already enough of a music biz veteran to be completely jaded by the industry. His short tenure in the Box Tops produced two million-selling hits, The Letter and Cry Like a Baby, but the group's sound and direction were determined almost exclusively by producers Chips Moman and Dan Penn, who rarely diverged from the group's R&B-laced rock'n'roll. Free from the demands of that hit group, Chilton holed up in Memphis' Ardent Studios with producerfounder John Fry and engineer Terry Manning to record a batch of his own songs. Seems that some of these have an outer edge warp.

This record sounds excellent. Full, bold, clean. Nice clarity. Nice pressing, no surface noise, no defects, comes in polylined sleeve. Very pleased. And great music!

This LP is a real nice job that certainly demonstrates what was yet ahead for Alex Chilton once his partnership with Chris Bell was realized. You can hear the potential in the title track and in spots throughout this set as he moved from vocalist to composer trying his hand at country rock and more. All in all, the effort falls well short of Big Star's greatness but is an interesting exercise. For completists only. This version also comes with a 7" and together the two discs make a nice package.
