Album

Live 1966: The Royal Albert Hall Concert is a two-disc live album by Bob Dylan, released in 1998. It was recorded at the Manchester Free Trade Hall during Dylan's world tour in 1966, hence the quotation marks around the false attribution to the Royal Albert Hall. Extensively bootlegged for decades, it is an important document in the development of popular music during the 1960s. The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert - Bob Dylan. For decades, Bob Dylan's performance in Manchester was incorrectly labeled, The Royal Albert Hall Concert. Now, for the first time, the REAL Royal Albert Hall concert, originally recorded for a live album by CBS Records, is finally being released as a standalone 2-CD set, titled The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert. This show is also included in the 1966 Live Recordings box set. It's wonderful to have another concert from the 1966 UK tour, as a vinyl album. Despite Bob playing the same repertoire at every concert, there are appreciable differences in mood, vocals and playing on different nights. I chose to upload this concert partly because only two songs had to be cut. Bob Dylan - Live at the Hollywood Bowl 1965 RARE COMPLETE CONCERT Sept. Furthermore, the set lists are identical, so The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert feels a bit like a mirror image of the Manchester Free Trade Hall. Like on Manchester, the acoustic set is quite good, but it's overshadowed by an electric set that feels wild and alive. Perhaps the performance isn't as epochal as The Royal Albert Hall Concert, but it offers similar thrills and pleasures, and that's enough for any Dylan fan who wants to hear more music from this rich period. Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singersongwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-consciousness narratives. By 1997, fans were wondering whether Bob Dylan had anything left in his artistic tank, but a near-fatal illness had clearly inspired him, resulting in a dark, moody album filled with resignation and visions of mortality. The spare and loose Trying to Get to Heaven and the mysteriously beautiful Not Dark Yet are album centerpieces, while Til I Fell in Love You, with its droning organ, tells us that new love isnt without deep tensions and anxiety. My copy has a small spine ring instead of a large one as on the images here.

It’s important to note that, contrary to decades of historical accounts and testimonies, the man in the audience isn’t screaming out “Judas!” in dissension after all. In reality, he’s simply yelling for his missing girlfriend, “Judith!”Play it fuckin’ LOUD

Is that a joke or you know for sure? That’s some serious RnR myth you’re going after......

You really think this stands up as a piece of music?

This is of more interest as a document with some historical significance to Dylan fans, than as a stand alone piece of music. The acoustic set is OK, and live, acoustic renditions of these songs are rare, but Dylan's very nasally, he sounds disinterested and is much better on earlier acoustic sets. The second disk's the electric set, it opens with "Tell me Momma" which doesn't appear anywhere else, which is followed by electric versions of "I Don't Believe You" and "Baby Let me Follow You Down". The crowd applaud, but there's also jeering and heckling, especially the famous Judus incident, they grow impatient as the band get in tune and Dylan sounds stoned as he mumbles between songs. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wasn't a hardcore Dylan fan and even then, only for novelty value really.

"And even then, only for novelty value really"? Wow, this couldn't be more off-base.

Same problem here, only off centre on side two.You could do what i did, very carefully enlarge the hole in the centre of the record with a small sharp paring knifeMake sure you enlarge the hole only in the opposite direction to the off center side. Then you'll have to manually center the record on the turntable before you play it , and this applies to both sides of the record now unfortunately...but you'll be able to hear it properly, and you don't have to pay out stupid money for a replacement that probably wont be any better than the one you have now. You'll need a big hole, but it does solve the offset pressing problem. Be sure to blow off carefully all the little bits of vinyl...could scratch the record if you don't get em all.I'm disgusted that you cant get a quality pressing of this even at the premium price we're being charged for these.
