Featuring twinkling glockenspiel, a pulsating beat, layers of echo, and a terminally infectious chorus its a catchy and clever tune. And its surrounded by enough good material to prove that Cults is no one-hit wonder. The bands appeal lies with their straightforward approach: basic drum beats, shimmering guitars, and well-placed synths and trippy samples that wrap around Follins sunny, sing-along vocals. The critical response to Cults was generally positive. Jazz Monroe of NME said the album isnt quite the tremulous voyage of hearts and minds it wants to be, but Hari Ashurst of the BBC said that despite the genre signifiers theres more than enough personality of their own here for Cults to transcend both their blog hit wonder and the timeworn sound they lovingly homage. About Cults. This their first album, created when Madeline and Brian were still a couple. You can hear the lyrics reflecting how happy they were as a couple, unlike their sophomore album, Static, which has a sadder undertone. Cults was released in 2011 to Colombia Records. Cults Q&A. Cults is an indie pop duo based in New York City, consisting of Madeline Follin vocals and Brian Oblivion guitar and vocals. The film-students-turned-musicians from San Diego create a nostalgic buzz with their 1960s-sounding tunes about love and loneliness. At the age of twelve, Madeline Follin was offered a record deal with Recess Records after hanging out in the studio with her stepfather, Paul Kostabi's band Youth Gone Mad. However, her parents declined. Cults is the debut album by American indie pop band Cults. The album was released in the US on June 7, 2011 on In the Name Of, an imprint of Columbia Records. Cults: American indie pop band formed in New York City in 2010. The band first came to prominence when they posted a three-song EP, Cults 7, on their Bandcamp page. They are signed to Sony and In the Name Of, a record label that was set up by British singer Lily Allen. Always Forever, Bad Things, Abducted и другие песни. Cults made the most of the mystery surrounding them, turning the three songs they posted on their Bandcamp page into major-label record deal in just over a year. Of course, it helped that one of those songs was Go Outside, a piece of pop so sunny and wistful that it only made the question who is this band even more pressing. The best example of their music is still the song that started it all. Go Outside embellishes Follins seemingly simple wish to go out and live her life with sparkling glockenspiels on one hand and Jonestown leader Jim Jones saying To me, death is not a fearful thing its living that's treacherous on the other. Cults performing I Took Your Picture, exclusively for Baeble Music. Cults are excellent songcrafters, expert at boosting drama with dynamics and unexpected sounds. But what sets their music apart is feeling: the mood of wistful romance that hovers over the songs, the idea that love is an insoluble mystery. Read full review. Чарт обновляется ежедневно. A seriously adorable pop album, that holds all promises made by last year's single, and even outdoes them.
Eleven charming songs clearly in the 60s girls band tradition, with glockenspiels, echoes and handclaps galore, but the sound and production aren't looking towards 'retro' : firm, clear, crisp and loud enough, and also quite modern and electronic in the details (listen through headphones and be pleased), this is a solid 2011 pop record that will stand the test of time courtesy of proper, both catchy and candid song-writing skills (honestly not a really weak song in here, personal favorites being "Walk At Night" and "Never Saw The Point", added to the already classics "Go Outside" and "Most Wanted"). A gift your girlfriend can't refuse, be she 17 or 71.
