Me at record store: "Hmmm well it's 35 bucks but this is a classic."Me at home: "Is my stylus busted? This sounds like shit!"Me after checking Discogs "Nope, I got screwed."
Mikarr
I owned this BOB version, along with 'Anthems'. The vinyl master is terrible - you are warned, there is no definition. Get hold of the newer 2017/18 reissues.

I bought it in Edinburgh on a trip, which pleased me very much because I couldn't get it for at least 2 years in Slovakia. It's a very nice piece and plays very well. I still think it's one of the most iconic black metal albums ever.
Molace
Don't buy this copy. The last song on side A suddenly stops. Totally disrespectful
Mazuzahn
I really like this issue. I think the remaster is fine, having compared it side by side with the OG CD rip, they really don't sound dramatically different at all, but the remaster brings out a few little details here and there which makes it at least as enjoyable if not more for me. You gotta keep in mind that this was never a hi-fi album, and neither this remaster or the original is a really a 'sound quality' experience so I'm not sure it's really worth fussing over the sound differences, honestly. The inclusion of the '93 alternate mix of the album is the big selling point of this version, though, it's just a cool new way to hear the album. You even get three tracks from the self titled EP as a bonus. The presentation of this CD is also fantastic, my only complaint being that I prefer the artwork of the actual disc on the original version, but this is really premium otherwise. Totally recommended.
GAMER
today arrived, release looks really nice, sounds very good as well
Yadon
Yes it is 7 more words 3 more words hi
Vudogal
Hi, is this version also gatefold? Thanks for your help.
Joni_Dep
Is it just me or the side A of this 2LP version sounds way too low compared to the remaining three sides? The sound quality is similar but A side is like you turn down the volume 10%. Has anyone noticed this same problem?
Geny
Yes! your 100% right. I noticed this on first listen. Worthless pressing. I sold mine a week after buying.
Mala
Is this version remastered or is it from the original source?
Ylonean
This is remastered like the compact disc? Can anyone tell me
Wenes
The source coming from the original CD. The quality is not so impressive but still has more atmosphere than the remastered CD
Nikobar
It's interesting that my solid blue has the same matrix runout as the transparent one
Saimath
Norwegian Black Metal crafted to true perfection. This re-pressing is labeled as a "replica" of the original, so I imagine it's the closest a collector can get without shelling out hundreds of dollars.
Jerdodov
This album sounds great don't listen to these other guys. You do need to listen to it on a decent system with EQing capabilities though. You need to cut the treble a little to remove the sibilance of the cymbals and guitars and boost the bass slightly. However if you regularly buy black metal vinyl, especially older releases from the 90's etc then you will recognize this issue with many of the recordings. This version sounds just as good as the cd when you EQ it right. If you have an EQ on your receiver, or a seperate EQ deck involved in your system go ahead and get this, this album is a masterpiece. m/
Envias
is this clear blue, as the previous version, or solid blue?
Anyshoun
This copy is in solid blue vinyl. Got it today.
Musical Aura Island
Solid blue. I guess it's otherwise the same (same runout etchings).
Kajikus
This is being repressed by candelight/spinefarm and will be available in the winter.
Fenrikree
Anyone have a clue what amounts they usually make these? They seem to sell fast.
Marilace
no, this is the candlelight/spinefarm pressing not the back on black
jorik
Repress from Candlelight. Will be available on 9.11.2018 on blue vinyl.
Felhann
Anyone have a copy for a reasonable price please pm me. No reason for these to be at such a high price already.
Ceroelyu
Or maybe its just because you dont know when next they are being repressed. I really doubt the color has nothing to do with it.
Tygolar
don´t worry, reissue on 9. november 2018 available now at EMP e-shop, check it - pre-order now. good luck
lifestyle
Do you ever get the feeling someone is having their friend buy these for 150 bucks to drive up the value? I paid 20 bucks for this and two months later it's going for triple digits because it's blue. Fucking stupid
Kendis
Anyone here has some spare back inlay cover to sell? Could be this version ( preferably ) or from others..thanks!
BoberMod
I bought this record in 1994, still own it. Who decides this is some vague unknown version? It's definately a original one, just came in multiple versions back then!
Kage
You can edit the release yourself and add a date. Often, if the person adding the entry is not sure when the CD is pressed they will leave the date out. If you are 100% sure and have exactly the same release then please update the entry.
kolos
Is inno a satana cut off this tape? My side a ends with cosmic keys and b ends with i am the black wizards. Side a has 3 songs. Side b has 4. Need to fix the track listing if so. Please help. I could have swore my old tan tape version on century i had in the 90’s had all 8 songs and i just found this copy.
Erennge
Fixed track listing to disregard last song which does not appear on this tape.
Ghile
My one also doesn´t include Inno a Satana, so this info must be fixed... I got it directly from Century Media mid 90's.
Xar
The tape only has the 7 songs. I have the same cassette I bought on it's release and was kind of bummed that Inno A Satana was missing. it's only on the cd and vinyl
Manesenci
This one needs a repress already. I cannot believe how quickly it disappeared.
Thomeena
It's on the way, should be ready in November, pre-orders are up on the web via different distros
Mmsa
Couldn't agree more. I eagerly await this album for a good price and not a shitty repress.I know its OOP but the prices listed here and on eBay are ridiculous.
Mananara
is the booklet 2 separate sheets? mine comes with 3 page front, back as above, back is the 'demongate' photo and an extra page as the plastic head mailorder promo sheet. same matrix/runout code on disc. am i missing it or different pressing?
SoSok
One of the worst sounding vinyl records I have ever heard. The cover is lo-res crap as well.
Gholbirius
side A the last song suddenly cuts, no respect for the fans.
Fordregelv
Cover isn't that bad but the sound is awful, just like all B/o/B reissues.
ladushka
The best vinyl version of this I've found. The BOB reissues are just garbage and I don't really see point of getting the new Candlelight pressing.
Ann
Unless of course you don't wanna shell out 200 for original but it's worth it. I used to see the og pressings all over in the 90's i should have grabbed one while i had the chance.
Manona
While all the remaster/reissues I've heard do have more clarity they are highly compressed and definitely sound that way. I personally will take a murkier sound with good dynamic range over a very clear sound with terrible dynamic range.
Yndanol
I disagree about the newest vinyl pressing sounding better but I do like it a lot.
Steel_Blade
Honestly, i sold my original because the new press from 2017 sounds a lot better. The original vinyl is poorly mastered. The only thing better about the original is the artwork reproduction is slightly better than the 2017 press but only slightly.
Gietadia
I agree but the first press can be very expensive and not everybody can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a single LP. The back on black pressings are in fact garbage but the newest candlelight pressing sounds noticeably better imho.
Rich Vulture
Is this really 'unofficial'? It looks professional enough and, more interestingly, I recall buying it directly from Candlelight records in this format when it was released.
Rainshaper
Quality pressing for sure. Little quieter than i would like. As compared to the orriginal candle light vinyl version this one is more muffled but has more clarity. Hearing the bass guitar in parts I never heard before. All around a great deal. Keep in mind I am used to an original cassete from century black and the first vinyl press from candle light. Thats what i am comparing this new pressing too. Its a win though! Plus the original did not have that cool inner sleeve.
Morlunn
Sound of vinyl is clean and up to scratch.. but is n't breathtaking. Compared to the CD this the vinyl version has sounds a little more interesting and a bit live. But the big differences there. What is the special vinyl mastering - is anyone's guess. But the pirate tape (Angel's Of Hell Records https://www.discogs.com/Emperor-In-The-Nightside-Eclipse/release/5405563) sounds better than CD and better this vinyl! The designers obviously chose the color vinyl to match the cover, but it looks all weird. Would be better if it was splatter. It's bad that there is no black version, but given the vinyl renaissance, it will probably be released to make a money
Kamuro
So basically they've got the sound right but they've ruined it by printing the album artwork in the wrong bloody colour just like BoB did?Great job, lads.
Enditaling
The colours are indentical to the first press LP i had. I compared them side by side before selling my first press. The only difference was that moon is slightly less sharp on the new press and back side picture has a very slight blur filter. Otherwise it's all spot on.
Rrd
I had to rebuy this album and replace it with the new 2017 reissue by candlelight records and it is far superior than this version, BUYER STAY AWAY FROM THIS RELEASE. The quality of this release by Back on Black is inaudible after the first song on each side of both records.
Beanisend
does this come with a download code at all? just curious to know so i can buy the cd as well.
Thetath
because i collect both cd's and records anyways. the cd would eventually end up in my collection anyways even if i bought a vinyl copy. thanks for the reply.
Uris
Nope. Why would you buy the CD and not just rip the vinyl?
Spilberg
Finally!!!! This is light years beyond the Back on Black versions. There's so much more clarity and detail that was severely missing from those. Will wind up replacing my other BoB pressings. Whatever the source material they used here, it's legit. Buy with confidence.
betelgeuze
Sounds great, sounds like a studio remastering of old cassettes, feels raw, is loud but not distorting at high levels, cover is pressed nicely recommended.
SadLendy
I was wondering the same thing. Can anyone confirm? I have wanted this on vinyl for a long time but refuse to get the back on black version due to the sound quality issues.
Ndyardin
I purchased this today and I think it sounds pretty damn good. No issues with surface noise and doesn't sound flat
Usic
It is perfect in my opinion, not only sound-wise,but the front cover looks awesome!
Yananoc
Can anyone comment on the quality of this pressing? Is it any different than the Back on Black pressings?
Talvinl
It's 180g. Sounds fantastic. That being said, I haven't heard the Back On Black pressing so I have no comparison. But just going by ear it sounds awesome
the monster
I can read just fine. Keep beating that Straw Man and employing subterfuge to avoid the fact that you're a moron.
Mezilabar
Trumpduck Hey, you're the one who thinks the "original source tapes" are hi-res digital files, not me.Sounds like you need a clue in audio recording comprehension there, chief. Still can't read I see. Or comprehend the words. Keep trying "chief."
Morad
Trumpduck This was recorded in analog; there is no way the original source tapes would be high-res digital files back in 1993. All you bedroom audio engineers can calm down; for an album that was purposely recorded to sound like shit, this pressing is actually quality. I think you could use a lesson in reading comprehension. Thanks for your "insight."
Fek

Flocton
It sounds alot better to me. I bought that back on black version and it was the worst sounding record i have ever heard.Volume up and down, sometimes so loud it distorted. Plus this version does not have those pointless bonus tracks. Good tracks but should not be on a classic like this. I would go with this version.
Yozshujinn
It literally just came out today 1/13. Mine just arrived but I haven't spun it yet. However, it's remastered for vinyl specifically from the original source tapes (whatever those are, likely high-res digital files). The Back On Black one is 100% a rip from the CD, like everything they release. YMMV if you care.
Insanity
Does anyone know anything about the supposed 2015 vinyl release of this on Back On Black with the ASIN number BOB0012IV6JI. It is for sale on amazon.com. I am guessing it is an error but just want to make sure. Ive wanted this album on vinyl for years - cant afford the original, don't like picture disks, refuse to buy the 2008 BOB release and the 2005 has been unavailable for some time.
Justie
Review of this pressing here:https://vinylofthebeast.wordpress.com/2016/04/10/review-emperor-in-the-nightside-eclipse-2lp-reissue/Sounds like another BOB fail to me.
Dondallon
very different from future versions in my opinion. More murky and not so clear in the high ends. Sounds more like other norsk black metal bands. Its a good and a bad thing with emperor. Especially vast difference comparing with 2003 remastered CD.Many vinyls of this era sound weird since they were done 100 % digital.
Sha
Karu_selli very different from future versions in my opinion. More murky and not so clear in the high ends. Sounds more like other norsk black metal bands. Its a good and a bad thing with emperor. Especially vast difference comparing with 2003 remastered CD.Many vinyls of this era sound weird since they were done 100 % digital. You're making assumptions and jumping to conclusions that the records sounds "weird" because the sources were digitial.Digital doesn't have a sound, unless an extremely poor A/D converter was used, and it's very unlikely that these were used in 1994. Such poor converters were usually from the 70's or early 80s. But of course, it can't be ruled out - it's just highly unlikely. In any case, as long as you use a decent A/D converter, the digital transfer will be audibly indistinguishable from the analogue master tapes. Analogue is what has a "sound", since it's imprecise - it changes the frequency response and adds audible distorition and noise, which digital PCM doesn't (DSD adds inaudible distortion and noise, since it's essentially a broken technology being marketed as a superior format).
Dusho
That is the true first press. There was a second pressing around 1998-99 with slightly brighter cover.
Adrierdin
Does the front sleeve of yours look darker? The artwork I mean. And does the gatefold itself seem kind of flimsy?
Shomeshet
boycott everything back on black made, seriously! these pressings suck donkey B*lls.
Beahelm
Why is that? Half assed packaging and crappy sound? I
Nkeiy
In 1994 Black Metal fame is due to many crimes involving musicians of that scene. Music is not so important. In the Nightside Eclipse risks to be simply a shocking album played by criminals. Indeed It is a great masterpiece of dark symphonic metal, with a new way to play epic music. A tribute to nature forces, with a deep charm for the dark side, as in an obscure fantasy story. Violence and grandeur, aggression and atmosphere, frost and emotion coexist naturally in this album. Visceral and primitive music with incredible melodic research, in a sea of keyboards. Emperor’s members are young and crazy like Mayhem’s ones, but the approach to heavy music is completely different. No perversion or sickness in Emperor’s album, but a religious tribute to the darkness.

The album itself is awesome, all songs, an absolute non topped classic, incredible both musically and "spiritually" and the sound/ production creates a perfect enviroment for this monstrous musical creation, despite of the fact that it results a bit hard to hear all what's going on with every instrument sometimes, but the ambience achieved is like a whole dark world of magic where you can get lost. However, I have lowered the rating for this particular release due to some circumstances: the remastered sound is worse than the original, IMO, the beautiful original artwork, in both front and back cover, looses a lot with that blue filter used for this reissue, as well as for the silvering of every letter and the Emperor logo and, finally, the bonus tracks are absolutelly out of place.

I don't think there will ever be unanimous agreement on the standard of this album. One camp argues that the production is weak and all over the place, particularly with the vocals, while the other says that for a release that fell under the black metal umbrella it had unbelievable insight, variety and depth. Personally, I lump it in what I call the Wagner bin (ie this is a paraphrase of something someone allegedly said about Wagner)... brilliant moments and tedious quarter hours.

The album is legendary. This particular reissue, though, is massively annoying due to the two atrocious bonus tracks (covers recorded years later) tacked onto it, which reduces an amazing listening experience to a race to the stop button.
