Not Two, Not One is an album by Canadian jazz pianist Paul Bley with American bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Paul Motian recorded in 1998 and released on the ECM label. Remarkable interplay, chamber-free harmonies, and loose improvisations add up to some special sounds. All compositions by Paul Bley except as indicated. Paul Motian , Paul Bley and others. Re-united with bassist Gary Peacock and percussionist Paul Motian their last recording together for ECM was made more than two decades earlier, the trio revisits the quirky Fig Foot, and explores colors, moods, and even a touch of blues on a set of all original compositions. Bley is especially effective exploring the lower sonorities, while Peacock's full-sounding bass throbs with joy. Motian is characteristically exquisite, his soft, layered, sensitive strokes prodding his colleagues. Pianist Paul Bley started out as a bebopper in the 50s, playing trio with Mingus and Art Blakey. A decade later, drummer Paul Motian played a key role in Bill Evanss reinvention of the trio concept. Later still, bassist Gary Peacock furthered the idioms evolution in a long-standing association with Keith Jarrett. So of course a BleyPeacockMotian trio is going to be serious stuff. A free jazz aesthetic prevails on the album. Tempos, harmonies, and forms are for the most part implied and difficult to detect. Yet the music is never cacophonous. Release date: ECM 2642. In 1999, a year after recording the splendid reunion album Not Two, Not One, Paul Bleys highly innovative trio with Gary Peacock and Paul Motian took to the road with concerts on both sides of the Atlantic. When Will The Blues Leave documents a terrific performance at the Aula Magna di Trevano in Switzerland. Included here, alongside the angular freebop Ornette Coleman title track, are Paul Bleys Mazatlan , brimming over with energy, Gary Peacocks evergreen Moor , Gershwins tender I Loves You Porgy and much more. With Gary Peacock - Paul Bley. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Paul Bley with Gary Peacock is an album by Canadian jazz pianist Paul Bley with American bassist Gary Peacock recorded in 1963 and 1968 and released on the ECM label in 1970. Adler awarded the album 3 stars stating There's a curiously straight-ahead, tempo-driven feel to this short and sweet disc. The brittle, lo-fi sound doesn't detract from the album's historical value. The Penguin Guide to Jazz said There are good things, too, from what was to be Bley's. Billy Elgart replaces Motian on the remaining three. That's not to say the music is conventional: there are two tunes apiece by Bley, Ornette Coleman, and Annette Peacock and one by Gary Peacock, in addition to the lone standard, Jerome Kern's Long Ago and Far Away. The finale, Albert's Love Theme by Annette Peacock, stands out as the most abstract of the bunch. Paul Bley, Gary Peacock, Tony Oxley, John Surman Article Four.
