Scott Brown has said that he had difficulty remixing this song because the Happy Birthday vocals were taken from a very old record. Legendary Michel Klaasen aka Tellurian does his best with the horrible material he's given, but it's still forgettable. The hidden gem here is The Number One Contender. It doesn't sound like Michael Wells previous material, an intense Hardcore track with equally intense vocal samples. It's the first track on Thunderdome X so the CD really starts off with a bang! Because the CD came out in late 1995, the track was made in 1995 but not released until 1996.

Well, I kind of go into a bit of a different direction with this review compared to gabba4life. To me this as well as the Headsex single were both really cheap attempts to recreate the success of "I Wanna Be A Hippy" (particularly the Flamman & Abraxas Mix obviously), the whole sound clearly is reminiscent of it and doesn't fit to the Mokum output at all. On this one here it's the "Timitico's Happy Blast/Radio Blast", on Headsex it's the "Electric Salmon Radio Mix". To me these were only attempts to jump on the Happy Hardcore Mainstream bandwagon that was running back then. I don't like them at all.

As gabba said the Tellurian as well as Scott Brown Mix are done in typical style of both, they deliver good mixes but without being too innovative.

The "Raise The Roof Mix" and especially "The Number One Contender" are the only tracks on here that saves it to 3 stars for me.

Overall I do prefer the earlier Technohead output like The Passion or Jetset/Accelerator by a huge amount over this one.

Happy hardcore in it's best shape. If you are familiar with the Happy Rave series you know exactly what i mean. What a way to say happy birthday! Although we the old school ravers love this sound, it's still a children's song. But who cares? The whole idea in the music back in the 90's was to dance and have fun. Nothing compares with the fast melodies, the distorted drum kicks, the female vocals (necessary in most of the cases) and the freshness of the songs. Like here in Timitico's remixes. Pitch adjusted vocals, piano riffs, arpeggiated bass line with the childish character from the beginning. Scott Brown's remix is the hardcore version of the song. The same vocals but in a more serious style. Tellurian delivers the song in his usual trancecore style. Interesting. Number one contender is in the style of the Headsex album, which means true hardcore. All and all this particular 12" combines hardcore and happy hardcore together.

I love this tune. It's just plain fun. Very reminiscent of I Wanna Be A Hippy. It's hard as hell, but funny too. A lot of happycore kids like to hear gabber stuff mixed in and this happy gabber fits perfectly. I prefer the Tellurian mix the best, but they're all pretty good really.
