Album

Live at Leeds is the first live album by English rock band The Who. It was recorded at the University of Leeds Refectory on 14 February 1970, and is their only live album that was released while the group were still actively recording and performing with their best known line-up of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The Who were looking for a way to follow up their 1969 album Tommy, and had recorded several shows on tours supporting that album, but didn't like the sound. Yes - Close To The Edge Full Album. Rushed out in 1970 as a way to bide time as the Who toiled away on their follow-up to Tommy, Live at Leeds wasn't intended to be the definitive Who live album, and many collectors maintain that the band had better shows available on bootlegs. But those shows weren't easily available whereas Live at Leeds was, and even if this show may not have been the absolute best, it's so damn close to it that it would be impossible for anybody but aficionados to argue. The live album was never going to happen if we didnt do something, and fast. This was early in February 1970, and the band had only two gigs coming up before a long break, at Leeds University on February 14th and Hulls City Hall the following day. The original Live at Leeds, released May 23rd, 1970, featured just six of the 33 songs played at the show, and not a single one of them was from Tommy. One of the greatest sounding rock records probably of all time. Seriously, this thing will blow the hair off your arms at high volumes. Makes other records from 1970 sound as flat as a stale gluten-free pancake.

I have a copy which I bought in the early 70's from the (then) local record store - It has the black stamp on the cover, side A 2406001 A//1 1 1 2 side B 2406001 B//1 11 10 The vinyl is pretty thin. It is a gatefold sleeve, of sorts, with the cover folded up inside, half way to make a pocket across the bottom, and it is stapled either side. I have all the inserts, except the Marquee poster, so in total there are eleven. The poster may have gone on my wall when I first got he album - sadly long gone. Reading the list of correct inserts, I note that I seem to have a mixture of earlier and later ones - some the right yellow, others with the correct centre fold, but the rest either the paper is too thick or one is the right thickness but not yellow. Anyone have any observations?

I've just bought a copy on ebay. The sleeve looks quite aged and has blue stamp on outside with black print on inside and I think it is an early release. It came with only 10 inserts including Marquee poster and both photos. I was surprised to see that the record had a yellow label from lbc? Sound Recording Studios 35 Portland Place London W1 and is on heavyweight vinyl. It does not have any matrix numbers. The text on the label is typed. I suspect it might be a re-issue of some sort married up with an original sleeve. Can anyone help?
Rleillin
I've since found that it is IBC (International Broadcasting Studios) and was used by many big bands including The Who in the 50's / 60's / 70's.This looks like it could be an original from the studio before official release. I'll update info as I get any.

The concert is very good, the recording is what the times permitted for live concerts, not good at all.

Is there only one version of the 3 LP rerelease or am I looking at the wrong one as my copy looks identical but doesn't have a download card included?
BlessСhild
Mine came without download card as well but I'll probably just rip the vinyls if I need them digitized.
Kifer
Same here; no download card; thus, I gave it 4 stars.
Legionstatic
I wonder, which one of the inserts is the most looked after. Which ones do have a high value? The contract for the Who to play at Woodstock?? The Foto of the group? The Woodstock- Foto? The lyric sheets? Are they being sold and bought seperately at all? Somebody that knows more about this?
Togor
was the tommy portion remixed or is it still out of phase like the 2001 2cd and the super deluxe box set?

As a longtime Who fan, owning the original Live At Leeds, this complete edition is absolutely AMAZING. Sound is wonderful and having just seen them on their Moving On Tour, this throwback to Feb 14th, 1970, clocking in at over 2 hours, is a great companion listen to their new show. The Tommy performance is a great documentation to how they were doing their shows in 69-70 by playing some blues and their mod classics, throwing in Tommy in the middle, then finishing with more guitar driving rock and Who hits. They did a similar thing this tour. Worth every penny. Note that sides C and D are mislabeled on my copy. Anyone else?
Braswyn
Mine too. I wonder if it's only later versions that have this issue as mine also didn't come with download card.
Angana
My copy also is labelled incorrectly on sites C and D!
Iaiastta
Just received my copy this morning from Want Records. 2nd disc is incorrectly labelled on mine too. Absolutely awesome record and package.

this edition of live at leeds is very hard to find in vg+ to m- condition, this has a thick sleeve my copy has the poster and three of the 11 inserts that came with it and the record itself is a very thick late 60s style pressing and it was pressed in venezuela and released there back in 1970 as this was released worldwide in 1970 ( all first pressings where) anyway this also has the stamp embossed SUMMERTIME BLUES new hit single on the right hand side of the front of the lp sleeve as you can see. great catch here................
Clandratha
According to Record Collector (SEPTEMBER 2010) the 1st sleeve was issued in either black, red or blue. However all colour variations for this sleeve had BLACK printing details on the inside of the sleeve (2nd pressings use same colors inside and on front). Also the print on the label is a dark blue, versus the turquoise used in later pressings!
Bluddefender
My copy is identical in every single respect to the BLACK ink one, matrix numbers, inserts are all exactly as described for a first pressing, except mine has RED print on the cover. I bought mine twenty odd years ago, the guy I bought it from had a couple of other Who albums. When I remarked on their good condition, he told me the woman he got them from worked for the label, but wasn't a fan. The label had her the record when the album was released. And there is no documented version here that is identical to the first pressing in every respect excepting the RED ink. I'm convinced I have a first pressing.
Ckelond
Is it true that is only one edition with black print on the cover? I have a copy with black print. I always thought it to be a later prissing since it came my way quite cheap and with no inserts at all. And the cover shows no signs of ever having contained a bulk of inserts, in terms of wear to the sleeve. I just wonder about this. Also my copy is Matrix / Runout (Side A runout stamped): 2406001 A//1 1 ' 5 Matrix / Runout (Side B runout stamped): 2406001 B//1 1 1 3Can any one help out here. Where there later pressings with black print on the front?
tref
Probably your copy came to you at an inexpensive price because it was missing all of the inserts & glassine grease proof bag. It does sound like that you have the original cover & vinyl, though.
Gietadia
Interesting - Wikipedia claims there were only 300 copies of the original U.K. black stamp version (which I have), yet 420 people on this site claim to have it in their collection! How is that? Anyways, it must include the grease proof glassine bag for the inserts to be considered complete.
Jozrone
You are correct, there are a more than 300 black copies. The very first black copies had the black stamp at a different angle from later black copies. This is where the confusion came in about only 300 copies of black sleeves. The angle was about 40 degrees from the horizontal or so, this was changed to the standard angle of about 60 degrees for later copies of black, blue and red. I have a jpeg showing the comparison of the differences but don't know how to upload it on discogs.
Vutaur
I own the original Black stamp (300 copies) release plus the original Australian release both with all 12 inserts photographs documents and poster. Both sound Brilliant all these years later.
Snake Rocking
My Version is a gate-fold with press photo, copies of Woodstock contract, rejection letters and other 1960's tally sheets etc.

If you like/love THE WHO's "Live at Leeds", buy it as a 1 ( ONE ) lp/VINYL OR AS A ONE ( 1 ) CD !Extended versions are just not what made "Live at Leeds" such an epic LP/vinyl: extended versions are just about getting more money our of punters !!!
Amarin
Ha ! Hearing extended versions of songs is one of the great things about seeing a band live.

Bargain Price for an original if it includes all the stuff (pics, poster...)!
Cordalas
ok, now that this has been reprinted recently at an honest price : pristine sound, one of the rare "recent" records without hiss and very good cymbals sound ! be warned, the paper printed sleeves leave a lot of white sh*t on the records, just clean them and you'll have noise/pop-free records. the only downpoint is that my copy arrived with record#3 slightly warped (thankfully it plays well)
Falya
i got this one a while ago in near mint condition both lp & sleeve, this is probably one of the hardest copies of live at leeds from 1970 to find in superb condition as this was printed only once and the sleeve is unique to india only and not many have survived from some near 49 years ago, i have seen this around but it always has flaws, im very pleased to have a superb, nm copy, its a beautiful sleeve on thick cardboard...............................

this was the last ever reissue on vinyl of the who live at leeds pressed in japan back in 1987 as vinyl was dis continued in japan by mid 1988, this was reissued in very limited quantity and is one of the harder japan pressings to get hold of, this has a thin typical mid 80s obi strip and comes with the standard japan insert.......................
Sharpmane
this was a nice 25th ann edition of live at leeds released back in 1995 to mark the 25th ann of the release of this classic live lp, as stated the disc is expanded with a lot more tracks then the original release was as per 1995 but the real expansion would not come until 2002/03 when they finally released the full show wich expands to a two disc set as tommy was done in full plus a lot of other songs, this was a very nice release back in 95 as at that time to get anymore then the original 6 tracks that came out in 1970 you had to rely on the many many bootlegs of this show, this comes in a 12 by 12 box with replicas of all the inserts and is very nice, i have two copies, one sealed and one open......................
Hulis
this was the first spain reissue of this lp, note the unique live sleeve on the rear of the sleeve..................... the first issue in 1970 had a unique live sleeve on the front and the same live shot on the rear of the sleeve............

The earliest releases of the Blue and Red sleeves had Black print on the inside. This was later changed to match whichever colour was on the front. The earlier Blue was also noticeably lighter than later issues. These earliest issues are rarer and as difficult to come across as the Black print sleeve. There is sometimes a lot of confusion about there being only 300 Black sleeve issues when they come up regularly for sale. I believe the reason is that the very first Black sleeves had the Print on the front at a different angle of about 30 degrees instead of the 60 degrees that all later variants have. I've seen a picture of this once but have been unable to find it again. PS I've found the picture but do not know how to upload it to discogs, if anyone wants to see it please contact me.

this was a decent release back in 1995 that was released in a 12 inch lp style box set w/ replicas of the original inner sleeve and all 11 inserts as well as the maximum r&b poster that came with the original lp in 1970, this opens up and there is a print of an lp but NO LP ONLY A REMASTERED CD that at the time back in 95 was expanded with extra tracks but still as of 1995 the only way to get this full amazing show was via the many cd bootlegs there where/are out there even entwistle told a friend of mine at the time of this release that he felt it was record company crap as the tommy opera in full was not included, anyway inside this fold out thick sleeve also included more great live shots from this era as well as pictures of posters and other stuff, this was a great release i have a sealed copy i got in 1995 and never opened it as well as a used mint copy a year later that i can enjoy. still the best was yet to come post 2000 when this was deluxed and the full show was available on two cds.............................
Domarivip
this is the first original 1970 pressing of this classic live who album from australia, the sleeve comes manufactured in a rather thick cardboard that is hard to describe but it is very thick, this edition comes with all the original inserts that came with all other first pressings in most other markets including the maximum r&b poster, this was the only australian pressing to include all of that, this one does not pop up often complete like this, if you can find one of these w/ all inserts and the poster grab it as rarely in 40 years of collecting who have i seen this complete in great shape................
Mightsinger
Funnnily enough I have the black stamp original 400 issue as well as a couple of other versions but recently my daughter rang me and said she had just seen this in a shop in melobourne for $10 well I have to say I never have seen a cardboard cover this thick on any Australian/NZ release and all inserts included!
Konetav
I collect "Live at Leeds" l.p.s my daughter rang me recently and had in her hand an Australian copy with all inserts intact mint condition....$10! very happy she found it
Fountain_tenderness
I have the original cover to this album with what I think are the second edition 12 inserts, they're a little bit smaller then the originals. I know this because I had the original album when I was a kid. I also have the album and cover mixed with a 1973 MCA pressing which plays better then the original record, so I mixed matched. All items are in VG+ condition to excellent. What's a fare price?
Tygrarad
Anyone know if this the original mix or the remix?
Mr_TrOlOlO
luckyno13 Anyone know if this the original mix or the remix? This is a remix which is misleading as the sticker on the cover said it was a remaster of the 1970 album.

the original french issue of this lp looks just like this one and only comes with the maximum r&b poster, it never came with all the other inserts. nice issue unique to france sleeve..............
Gashakar
Indeed. The release I found today has the b/w R&B poster.
Snowseeker
this is a really nice japan reissue of live at leeds from 1978, this comes with a nice glossy live shot poster, my guess is the live shot is from the last who tour with moon from 1976, this has a really cool 70s style obi strip as you can see, the poster should depict more of the 1970 era but hey it really adds zest to this reissue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nalaylewe
I'll start off by saying that I saw the American leg of this tour at the Spectrum in Philadelphia and have owned the original LP since it was new, wore it out, bought the early CD version, even remastered a couple of songs off the CD yada so I'm very familiar with the material. I've also been playing MFSL half speeds since they opened their shop. With all that, I am not disappointed with this album at any level. Except one. There was a great deal of dust and those nasty little paper particles that turn into cement if you don't get rid of them. For that I feel very fortunate to have a VPI to properly clean them before playing. Otherwise the sound and pressing quality is top notch and nothing is left to be desired. Worth the time for any Who fan, especially if you were there then.
Celak
According to current submitted images this issue has the "Live at Leeds" poster, should be the "Marquee" poster.
Gldasiy
of all the japan lp reissues of this live classic from 1970 this 1980 series reissue i felt had the nicest obi, in fact from this series in 1980 ALL THE OBIS LOOKED LIKE THIS and i remember when they made there way here to import sections in record shops in new york, i bough the first one ( direct hits ) back in 1980 for 16 usd ( that was a lot of money in 1980 for a new record even a japan import) and that was just one of the many japan import lps i bought that hooked me on japan pressings back some now 37 years ago, the discs where much superior sounding to us lps, anyway this comes with a one page lyric insert with lyrics in english and an essay on the other side regarding this who record in japanese VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!
lucky kitten
pretty obscure taiwan edition of live at leeds that was released in taiwan back in the early 1970s, this one does not pop up often at all, the sleeve is very thin as all pressings from this country where back then as these where basically printed in taiwan and marketed to us and british service members stationed in that part of the world during the 1960s and early 1970s, nice sleeve and a unique one to i might add................. many of these did not survive as service members either left them behind or the sleeves got destroyed easily as they where almost paper thin..
Silver Globol
How funny, a bootleg of a record that was packaged to make it look like a bootleg.
Kulalbine
this is a decent 3 lp half speed master, this opens up into a six panel sleeve with photos of vintage newspaper clips regarding this live album from 1970, the discs are half speed and the package is beautiful but i must admit i feel releases like this are getting a bit out of hand as i feel with vinyl back now again this is just another way to re sell the same records over again, regardless of that opinion this is a very nice package!!!!!!!!...... ps becouse it is vinyl and not cd that is why there was probably no room for the between songs banter, that is just my guess becouse with the compact disc form there is always more room for that stuff, it could have been done here but then this would have had to be a 4 lp set instead of three................i still love my original first uk pressing from 1970 though i own probably a good 20 different versions of this record.........
Faehn
Yep, I can confirm that the stage banter is present in full on this 3LP version. Quality release by the way, although the records require cleaning before spinning.
Skilkancar
I don't have the CD version of this release to compare but there is a lot of in between banter included on this vinyl release. Long passages in fact. Confused.
Alsalar
On 14 February 1970 The Who provided a concert at the University of Leeds. It was a memorable concert, because the band was in top form and was on the verge of a worldwide breakthrough. On the original album were only six tracks, including the single Summertime Blues. These beautifully executed ' deluxe edition ' is a double-cd which for the first time the complete concert registration State. With Substitute, My Generation and Pinball Wizard.
Anayaron
those track times are what is specified on the back sleeve. Surely, that excludes inbetween song banter, especially on side A/B

WOW!!!! six years ago this came out already, anyway i have this japan version of this amazing box set wich features two who shows, one is the regular live at leeds show and the other live in hull was recorded the night before the leeds gig in 1970, anyway the shm remastering makes this the best sounding version of this box set to get and this also comes with an amazing hardcover book and a live at leeds single lp in heavy 140 g vinyl as well as a really cool uk 45 replica and a small booklet with an essay in japanese and lyrics in both english and japanese, anyway i have felt this is the best version of this box set to have as again the sound is the best as shm mastering is only done in japan....

Just to add, the track listing for this German club edition is in a different running order from the standard Live At Leeds track order and this one also includes the studio version of Heaven And Hell, which was the b-side of Summertime Blues from Leeds. A beautiful sleeve, front and back, for this club edition album.

this was a real nice copy of live at leeds that came out of italy in 1970 OR in the early 1970s, this sleeve is unique to italy only as on the back of the sleeve this lists the track listing in a unique way like no other pressing, sadly that photo should be included here in the photo, it is a nice laminated sleeve but i think its an early 70s re issue i dont really think its the first italian pressing but THIS DOES NOT POP UP TO OFTEN so grab this if you are a big who collector as it is real unique.......
Xangeo
this is a very unique 2 cd set i got from russia for this classic live at leeds deluxe 2 cd set, both discs where printed in the uk by polydor uk in 2002 and this is the full live at leeds set list from feb/ 14 /1970, the inlay has a very unique sleeve that i have never seen on an lp version of this in my 37 years of collecting who, also the inlay consists of a really nice booklet as well, it seems like this was not your typical russian bootleg as again the discs sound awseome and this inlay sleeve ( with english text inside) may have been exported to russia from the uk or maybe the inlay was pressed in russia and the discs printed in the uk but regardless this is a very unique copy of live at leeds...........................................im glad i have one, if anyone out there can shed more light on this release please do so.................

I have come across at least 3 ( i own 1) black stamped albums that got laminated edges all around the front sleeve. It is not tape, it´s real lamination. My copy is a A1 B1 cutting, could this been an idea from the beginning that was dropped? / Mezzanine 67.
Manemanu
this is a very nice original 1970 pressing of this live classic out of italy, this is the first italian pressing of live at leeds and what makes this unique to italy is on the back of the sleeve the song titles are listed in big bold black letters, also this is a nice thick laminated sleeve.i dont see this one to often anymore......
Alexandra
this is one of the rarest copies of the classic 1970 live lp by the who titled live at leeds, this is the first ORIGINAL 1970 pressing of this lp with ample hebrew text on the sleeve, in 37 years of collecting who i have only seen this lp twice and my copy is ex++ condition as to find a mint one is near impossible, the sleeve is very thin and laminated, and once again as you can see the text is mostly hebrew and that is what makes this such a gem as well as there was probably only around 500 copies of this pressed some 46 years ago in isreal, not many seemed to survive and the ones that did are in the same condition as the photo you see above, i was sooooooo happy to finally get a great copy of this but it sure was a long haul and it took years...i have both the second and third pressings wich came out within 2 years of this first pressing as the lp sold fairly well in isreal wich was not expected back in 1970 so that was why 2 more editions where printed, all 3 are rare but this one is THE HOLY GRAIL!!!!!!!!
Heraly
nice french issue of this classic with a unique who logo in the front right hand corner of the front of the sleeve, this edition did not come with all the inserts.............
cyrexoff
this is a very nice columbian sleeve by the who for the classic live at leeds lp, this is one of the few who records that where released in columbia back in the early 70s, as you can see the sleeve is unique to columbia but my favorite sleeve for this classic is the brazil sleeve
Mightsinger
this is the original 1970 brazil issue of live at leeds, this has always been one of my favorites, this has an awesome live shot on the sleeve and it is also in mono, beautiful..............................
Akinozuru
this was a nice reissue of the classic 1970 who album live at leeds, the brazil original sleeve from 1970 was released in mono and has the same sleeve as this one does, this 1980 reissue has a different back rear sleeve then the original from 1980, regardless the live shot on the front is priceless....
Whitesmasher
this was a nice spain re issue of this 1970 classic live at leeds lp, the front of the sleeve is the same as the worldwide release but what makes this second spain printing from 1974 unique to spain is it still has that classic live shot on the back that was on the back of the original 1970 issue, also the spain 1970 first issue had a front and back sleeve unique to spain only......
Ubranzac
this was released in argentina in 1970, this has a unique sleeve to argentina as the track listing is in spanish text on the back of the sleeve, the sleeve is thin with a union jack logo on the upper left corner. nice copy did not come with the poster and the inserts.......
komandante
My copy matches this except it is stamped "the who live at leeds" on the back cover. It was originally purchased in South Africa.
Sat
this was a limited edition record club special edition of live at leeds released in holland in 1970, the track order is different and the sleeve is unique on the front and the back sleeve is a flipback and has a unique holland only back sleeve, different from the german sleeve........
Stoneshaper
Heaven And Hell as featured on this record, is it the live version or the studio (single B-side) version?

Have several versions of the 1970 print. One with Dark Blue print on front, and the same print on the inside of sleeve, on the right side. Got another version with lighter blue print, and black print on the inside, left side. Can't find any of these on discogs.

The version you’re describing was added 3 months ago by caringforvinyl:https://www.discogs.com/The-Who-Live-At-Leeds/release/14292463

Tyler Is Not Here
i bought a copy of this 20 years ago and never opened it, this was a so so rip off in a way of a then 25th ann live at leeds reissue in a 12 inch lp style box back in 1995 BUT on cd. as you can see THIS IS FAR FROM THE ENTIRE LEEDS SHOW wich i had on soundboard bootleg at the time and since then this entire show has been released a couple of times in full even the hull show the night before leeds ( wich was where a lot of the original recordings came from) has been officially released, still this is nice for collectors, in 1995 john entwistle did a sighning a friend of mine was at and when that person put this 12 inch box in front of john and said how much he loved this reissue john replied THIS IS CRAP TOMMY IS NOT ON HERE...........i think that says it all.........
Adoraris
The earliest press is supposed to have the black printing

Hi, I hope someone here can clear something up for me. So there is nothing worth any money in having an older recording of this album? What about the papers listed with this album? Did every album include a copy of these items? Thanks, Motherbug
Yahm
ps lets do a MY GENERATION 50TH ANN BOX LIKE THIS ONE.....
Burisi
this was a fantastic release about 5 years a go, beautiful photo (circa 1969/1970 booklet coffee table style this comes with as well as the live at leeds show and the live in hull gig from the night before leeds, original replicated packaging with all inserts and poster and one heavyweight lp and one replica 45 from 1970 that was released all in this box, this box sold out very fast, i have the japan edition that was in shm remastering, if you find that one here or on e bay you also get a seperate booklet with lyrics in english and japanese, either pressing you get THIS IS A KEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chilele
Hey man, is japan version remastering different from this one? No shm remastering for UK version? Thanks!
Kecq
this is the original 1970 japan pressing of this classic live lp, this comes with the same inserts as the us and european first issues did as well as a sheet with lyrics in both english and japanese, not hard to find for a 45 year old lp but try to get it complete as this japan edition has 13 inserts and the rest of the world had 12.........
Jesmi
this was the third pressing of this classic who lp printed in israel by the mid 70s, this is the more common pressing then the white sleeve pressing, this pops up from time to time but it is still very rare, the white one pops up once in a while but condition is the issue with that, the FIRST pressing that has most text in hebrew almost never pops up, i have seen it a few times but it is never in the condition i want it to be and belive me when it comes to 45 year old records from third world countries i have lowered my standards over the years as the records are old, anyway i have this pressing and the second pressing, thin sleeve decent sounding lp, also please note the sleeve is printed in israel and the record in germany for whatever reason.....
Roram
There appear to have been two versions of the poster which came with this LP. Pictured with this listing is a black and white printing, usual for the 'Maximum R&B' design. The poster with mine is light-brown and white, and more like a very thin card than paper. The rear of the poster is also a brown card colour. This isn't due to ageing as the poster is completely mint condition. It is though printed by the same company as the black and white variety, SIAT PARIS.
Malak
ps the photo of the sleeve above is in POOR CONDITION not vg+ as it is stated, i hate when people do that so i would avoid this
*Nameless*
this is the second pressing of live at leeds lp out of israel, the first pressing from 1970 is the rarest and hardest to find, the front sleeve of that consists of hebrew text, this was the second pressing around 1973, the disc was pressed in germany and the sleeve in israel, there is a third pressing that is the same as this one that was released in the mid 70s and that edition has a red sleeve, the red sleeve is a bit more common THIS ONE IS MUCH RARER, the first sleeve is almost impossible to find in acceptable condition.................... i have this second pressing and the third red sleeve pressing.............
Hiylchis
this is a very nice GERMAN ONLY RECORD CLUB EDITION of this classic live lp from 1970, this edition was released in 1972 ( i belive) and has an alternate sleeve as you can see, the sleeve is a nice laminated sleeve of the 4 members of the band and was available to record club members in germany and holland only for a brief period of time, i have both this german edition and there is a dutch edition i have as well, the dutch edition has the same front laminated sleeve but the back sleeve is a bit different then this german edition. there must have been enough german copies pressed some 43 years ago as this is still not to hard to find, the dutch edition is harder to find, as for this german edition it pops up quite a bit so dont let e bay prices fool you......
Dreladred
One of the best live albums ever made. Interesting fact though is that my original copy has 13 inserts.
Wooden Purple Romeo
this is a very nice french edition of this classic live album from 1970, the sleeve looks just like this one BUT if you can find the original french sleeve it comes with the maximum r&b poster, the original french copy did not come with all the inserts that the us, japan, german and uk copies came with, this only had the poster, still great copy to have...
Nahn
very nice french pressing of this 1970 live classic, i have the original french pressing i belive and it only comes with the classic marquee poster shot not all the inserts the uk, german and us versions came with, still this is a nice copy to have.....
Hirah
I think "Photo from behind the drums at Woodstock with writing on reverse" & "Small poster showing Pete Townsend jumping in front of a live-crowd, both feet in the air, holding his Gibson SG" are the same ! ?
Bluecliff
this was a very limited club edition of the who classic live at leeds from 1970, this lp was released in limited quantity a few months after its original release in the spring of 1970, there is this german sleeve and there is also a dutch pressing as well with an alternate sleeve as you can see, very nice laminated sleeve and of coarse these copies did not last long.....

The guy who remixed/remastered this album is a complete moron! It sounds nothing like the original 80's CD, nothing like the '95 remastered/expanded CD and nothing like the triple bootleg version, which happens to sound spectacular. The whole thing is smothered in watery noise reduction. There is no air around the instruments. The vocals (particularly on the Tommy tracks) sound like they're being sung through a tin can and string. Pete Townshend and his cronies may think this is acceptable, but I don't.
Brakora
fantastic japan shm mastered deluxe edition of this live classic from 1970, the contents include 2 great shm japan cds the regular live at leeds show plus the rest of the show that was only available as a bootleg until this release, even the 1995 25th ann edition of this with all the tommy bonus tracks does not cover as much as this 2 disc set does THIS IS THE ULTIMATE LIVE AT LEEDS CD SET!! this also comes with lyrics in both japanese and english as well as 2 live at leeds replica sleeves the first being a replica of the original brazil (live shot) sleeve and the original spain ( townshend at the marquee 65 shot) sleeve with spanish text all from 1970, this is a well worth peice of rock n roll history and sounds great to..... great slipcase box to.... this was the full set from feb 14 1970 however i recently discovered that most of this gig was recorded in hull uk the night before......

Obviously one of the best live records of all time. A ruckus blasting through your speakers, it's some of the best work the Who ever did. A true classic.

From Wikipedia:The album cover looks like the simple cover of a bootleg LP of the era and was modelled after The Rolling Stones' Live'r Than You'll Ever Be:[11] it is of plain brown cardboard with "The Who Live At Leeds" printed on it in plain blue or red block letters as if stamped on with ink (on the original first English pressing of 300, this stamp is black). The original LP's cover opened out, gatefold-style, and had a pocket on either side of the interior, with the record in a paper sleeve on one side and 12 facsimilés of various memorabilia on the other, including a photo of the band from the My Generation photoshoot, handwritten lyrics to the "Listening to You" chorus from Tommy, the typewritten lyrics to "My Generation", with hand written notes, a receipt for smoke bombs, a rejection letter from EMI, and the early black "Maximum R&B" poster showing Pete Townshend windmilling his Rickenbacker. The first 500 copies included a copy of the contract for The Who to play at the Woodstock Festival. The label was handwritten (apparently in Townshend's hand), and included instructions to the engineers not to attempt to remove any crackling noise. This is probably a reference to the clicking and popping on the pre-remastered version (notably in "Shakin All Over") which was from John Entwistle's bass cable. Modern digital remastering techniques allowed this to be removed, and also allowed some of the worst-affected tracks from the gig to be used.[edit]
